Welcome to Richard Sterling OD, and Associates
Dr Richard Sterling serves the Blue Bell, Pennsylvania and surrounding area with more than 26 years of experience. As an optometric practice, we provide examinations for glasses, contact lenses, disease management, surgical co-management and specialty contact lens fittings.
Dr. Jean A. Astorino is a low vision optometrist whose main office is in Media, Delaware County. She has office hours in Blue Bell on Tuesdays, and can be reached at 610-892-8767.
At your first visit to the office you will experience a comprehensive eye exam combining state-of-the-art diagnostic technology with 26 years of experience in the eye care world. We examine the visual components of the eye (e.g. nearsightedness, farsightedness, astigmatism, etc.) and eye health. In most cases a dilated fundus (back of the eye) examination (DFE) will be performed to evaluate all of the visible structures of the eye and determine the tendency towards progression to eye disease (e.g. glaucoma, high blood pressure changes, etc.). A complete refraction will be performed to determine the prescription necessary to give quality distance vision. The refraction will also determine the need for a prescription for near work that may be in some cases totally different from the distance prescription. A complete slit lamp examination (SLE) will be performed to determine, among other things, the health of the front of the eye (cornea) and the potential to have eye pressure problems (glaucoma).
Low vision optometry involves extensive evaluation of the patient's vision and daily activities. It may include evaluation for optical aids, visual rehabilitation therapy, in home therapy, state of the art low vision devices and assistance with vocational rehabilitation and working with a patients insurance to determine if there is coverage for devices.
